P15.What is spark plug over-heating?

Sustained over-heating can cause an abnormal combustion (pre-ignition), provoking a spark plug electrode fusion.

The over-heated spark plugs show an isolator white surface at the ignition extremity and salient sediments. The electrode fusion indicates over-heating. When the spark plug temperature excedes 870°C, the ignition end functions like a heat fount before spark emission and causes (pre-ignition) an abnormal combustion. If this situation to stay for a long time, there is the possibility of damaging the piston.

Over-heating causes

Causes
Solutions

• Very advanced ignition time Ignition time adjustment needed.
• Air/fuel mixture (A/F) too poor. Air/fuel relation adjustment needed (A/F).

• Insuficient cooling water and lubricants

Fill completely cooling water and lubricants.
• The pressure applied to the turbocharger is too high for a turbo engine Turbocharger pressure must be adjusted in a turbo engine.
  • Insuficient spark plug torque Rightly specified torque.
  • Used a spark plug too hot . Use an appropriate spark plug.
