P20. How long will a spark plug last?

. Even when a spark plug is correctly used, its periodic exchange is necessary for it to be a part of natural consuming.

Examples of problems that can happen due to excessively long periods of use

The worn-out electrode will have problems to produce sparks.
The burn or reduction of the useful life of bobbin and transforming of ignition.
• Increase of emission of toxic gases.
• Reduction of the useful life of the ignition cables.

In good state
Worn-out Electrodes
Dirty

If the electrodes borders are worn-out and rounded, sparks will not be easily produced, causing starting problems and ignition failures during functionning; that is, maximum engine power will not be attained.

Voltage leaks will happen through the accumulated coal at the ignition end causing ignition failures and hindering engine start.

These spark plugs must be changed

Remember that these phenomenons can also be caused by inadequate engine maintenance (combustion systems and ignition system) and incorrect spark plug selection.
