P3. What it means the thermic degree of a spark plug?

A spark plug must dissipate the heat produced by the combustion gases. The thermic degree is the amount of dissipated heat. The thermic ratio is expressed by a number.

Hot type

It is a spark plug that works hot, the sufficient to burn coal deposits, when the vehicle is in low speed. It possesss a long passage of heat waste, what it allows to keep high the temperature in the tip of the insulator.

Cold type

It is the spark plug that work cold, however the sufficient to prevent the carbonization, when the vehicle is in low speed. It possesss a shorter passage, allowing the fast waste of heat. It is adjusted to regimes of high request of the engine.

NOTE

It is essential to use an adequate spark plug for the specific engine. that is adjusted the most diverse condition of use.

What occurs when is installed a spark plug with incorrect thermal degree:

• Application of more cold spark plug:
The spark plug temperature is too cold and sediments accumulate at the ignition end; these sediments form an electric leak trajectory that causes sparks loss.

• Application of more hot spark plug:
The spark plug temperature raises too much and causes an abnormal combustion (pre-ignition); it can cause the spark plug electrodes fusion, as well as it can cause the piston blocking and/or perforate.
