RESISTOR SPARK PLUG: IDEAL FOR ALL VEHICLES
Constant
technological progress increasingly requires the incorporation of
onboard electronics on modern vehicles, whether in the engine or
in comfort and convenience equipment. Microprocessors - actual computers
with surprisingly high power - have sophisticated characteristics.
They are very sensitive to radio frequency interference which can
cause failures in their operation and disturbances in the various
systems controlled by the microprocessor.
On
vehicles equipped with an Otto cycle engine, the ignition system
is one of the main sources of radio-frequency interference. To limit
these effects, NGK developed resistor spark plugs which had such
attractive qualities that they became original equipment on all
domestic vehicles. That is why it is essential to always use resistor
plugs when performing maintenance.
The
chief construction characteristic of these plugs is a 5kohms resistor
inserted into the central electrode, thus forming a unit which follows
all the thermal and mechanical demands of a high quality spark plug.
The biggest advantage is the reduction of electromagnetic interference
to a minimum level. Use of these plugs allows:
Better
audio reception on AM-FM radios
Attenuation of interference to allow proper ignition, etc.
Better operation of radio communications
Minimum interference in electronic taxi ignition systems
NGK
resistant plugs are identified by the letter R stamped on the ceramic
insulator and on the cardboard cartons. Their code in catalogs is
also marked by the R. This will help in identifying the correct
type of plug when it comes time to change your plugs.
